The Sawsdee Cricket program that has developed over two years in Chiang Mai has been very successful within the limits of the resources available. As a successful 'pilot' test, it provides a blueprint for the expansion of cricket in schools at the junior level. However funds are urgently needed to maintain momentum, and make the International Cricket Council (ICC) dream of "cricket without boundaries", a reality in Thailand.
To introduce cricket where it has never been played before, the Chiang Mai Schools Cricket Alliance CMSCA decided at the start that it must provide free of charge to all participating schools :
a full set of Junior Cricket equipment, and coaching materials & support for teachers , and students. It was also decided that regular inter-school tournaments (with medals & prizes) must be arranged at different school grounds, to help build enthusiasm and momentum., and to bring cricket 'home' to Thai school children.
The start-up funding for the Sawasdee program has been provided entirely by Chiang Mai International Cricket Sixes Tournament participants. However this will not be sufficient to take the program to a much greater number of schools.
Next steps include:
1. The training and appointment of new coaches (some salary costs are expected). This is vital for more schools to be included in the program.
2. Printing of Student Sawasdee Cricket booklet - one given to every child that plays (explains Sawasdee Cricket in Thai with playing tips)
3. Production of other related material -Sawasdee Cricket score sheets, teacher coaching manual, Kanga cricket training video (from Australia).
4. Purchase of Sawasdee Cricket equipment (bats, balls, stumps)
5. Purchase of tournament medals & prizes.
